mr smith-energy systems Flashcards
ATP-PC
stored in muscles for 0-3 seconds
broken down into ADP plus PI
phosphocreatine broken down by creatine kinase
los x2atp
replenished x4 atp is replenished to form atp x2
allows exercise to continue for another 10 seconds
max effort/sprint
highest intensity
what type of exercise used for ATP-pc system
highest/ max intensity/anaerobic
benefit of ATP-pc system
broken quickly means it provides the energy needed quickly for sport activity
can be quickly replenished
beneficial in Rugby
this is beneficial in explosive/high intensity exercise
beneficial in sports with no breaks in play
disadvantages of ATP-PC system
only lasts for 13 seconds
then anaerobic glycolysis is required
requires rest and o2 to replenish
not all activities have breaks in play
Anaerobic glycolysis
used when ATP-pcr has been exhausted and high intensity
anything high intensity beyond 13 seconds
anaerobic glycolysis
breakdown of glucose into pyruvate using to produce ATP
PFK to produce ATP x2
lack of o2 means pyruvate is converted into lactate without o2/rest levels of lactate will increase until lactate threshold is reached
this caused OBLA to occur
Used when ATP-pcr system has been exhausted and high intensity anaerobic exercise continues
the system can sustain performance up to 60 secs
advantages of anaerobic glycoysis
doesn’t require oxygen so can run at higher intensities for longer/continue beyond 13 seconds
few stages so ATP is still released/resynthesized/available quickly
used for 100-400m
used for repeated pressing in football, high number in rugby
lactate built up irritates nerve endings
