Microdermabrasion Flashcards
Microdermabrasion def
Use of a device that exfoliates the stratum corneum with fine inert abrasive material or an abrasive tip attached to a vacuum device
3 categories of microdermabrasion methods
Particle microdermabrasion
Non-particle microdermabrasion
Hydradermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is performed during which phase and step
Increase phase and exfoliate treatment step
Particle microdermabrasion def
Material (crystals or other abrasives) is sprayed across the skin while a vacuum removes dead cells and the inert material into a closed canister on the device
Non-particle microdermabrasion def
Uses an abrasive tip attached to a vacuum; as the tip is moved across the skin, dead cells are vacuumed up and caught by filter
Benefits of microdermabrasion (8)
Removes dead skin cells
Increases microcirculation
Reduces appearance of fine lines
Improves skin texture
Improves scarring + stretch marks
Temporarily reduces sebum production (crystals only)
Reduces epidermal discoloration
Improves skin thickness
Types of microdermabrasion devices
Crystal
Diamond tip
Hydradermabrasion
Crystal device description and benefits
Particle microdermabrasion
Benefits skin by using aluminum oxide (an inert crystalline material that is water-insoluble) to exfoliate the skins surface
Diamond tip description and benefits
Uses same vacuum technology but has no crystals through the system
Benefits skin by interchanging different hand pieces with various diamond-grit types
Hydradermabrasion device description and benefits
Uses a tip made of diamonds, metal blades, or plastic blades
Benefits skin by exfoliating while infusing skin with water and serums at the same time; water or saline is sprayed on skin at high pressure to remove dead cells along with an exfoliating tip, while a serum or other active product is infused
At which facial step is microdermabrasion used
Exfoliation
Microdermabrasion zones (6)
Forehead
Left cheek
Right cheek
Nose and upper lip
Chin and lower lip
Neck and upper chest
Microdermabrasion zone 1 passes
Start on temple away from non-dominate hand
1st pass: long strokes upward toward hairline
2nd pass: long strokes across forehead
Microdermabrasion zone 2 passes
Start at orbital bone next to side of nose
1st pass: long strokes toward temple
Long strokes across cheek toward ear, downward toward jawline
2nd pass: long stoke towards temple
Microdermabrasion zone 3 passes
Same passes as zone 2 just on the RIGHT cheek
