Lysosomes Flashcards
1
Q
What are lysosomes?
A
Membrane-bound cell organelle that contains digestive enzymes
2
Q
Where are they synthesised?
A
In the ER.
3
Q
Where are they transported to?
A
To the Golgi apparatus for the secretory vesicles.
4
Q
What are the key features ?
A
- 100 lysosomes per cell
- Heterogenous appearance = all LOOK different in appearance.
- Acidic pH 4/5
- 40 hydrolytic enzymes ( Glycosidases / Nucleases / Sulphates).
5
Q
What is the substrate delivery in extracellular substances?
A
Endocytosis.
6
Q
What is the substrate delivery in intracellular substances?
A
Microautography.
7
Q
What is microautography?
A
Microautography is the direct engulfment of cytoplasmic material into the lysosomes
