images radiology Flashcards
opening or hole in bone located at the midline of the anterior portion of the hard palate
incisive foramen
two tiny openings or holes in bone that are located on the floor of the nasal cavity
superior foramina
pear shaped , located superior to the maxilla
nasal cavity
appears vertical, radiopaque partition that divides the nasal cavity
nasal septum
seen within maxillary sinus, radiopaque band bounded two thin lines
nutrient canals
sharp projection of the maxilla located at the anterior/inferior portion of the nasal cavity (shaped)
anterior nasal cavity
located superior to maxillary canine upside down y
inverted y
located within the maxilla, superior to. maxillary pre-molar/ molar teeth , lines going across
maxillary sinus
bulge, distal to the third molar region (outline)
maxillary tuberosity
hooklike projection , posterior to the maxillary tuberosity area
hamulus
appears as a j shape or u shape, located superior to the maxillary 1st molar
zygomatic process of maxilla
vertical portion found posterior to the third molar
ramus
corner portion formed by the junction of the posterior and lower boarders of the ramus
angle of mandible
tiny bumps of bone that serve as attachment . located on the lingual aspect of the mandible
genial tubercles
tiny opening or hole in the bone located on the internal surface of the mandible , surrounded by the genial tubercles (lighter holes)
lingual foramen
vertical on mandibular , straight line going down
nutrient canal
appears thick radiopaque band that extends from the premolar to the incisor region
mental ridge
located ABOVE the mental ridge in the mandibular incisor region, determined by the thickness of the bone in the anterior region of the mandible (dark)
mental fossa
small ovoid or round radiolucent area, located in the apical region of the mandibular premolars( looks round on the tooth at the bottom)
mental foramen
s a radiopaque band extending downward and forward from the anterior border of the ramus of the mandible. typically ends in the mandibular third molar region
external oblique ridge
space between the root of the tooth and the lamina dura.appears as a thin radiolucent line around the root of a tooth
PDL periodontal ligament space
located in the anterior region appears pointed and sharp between teeth. located between the roots of teeth varies in shape and density.
alveolar bone
not seen on a mandibular periapical image but may appear on a maxillary molar periapical image.Appears as a triangular radiopacity
coronoid process
dense radiopaque band that extends downward and forward from the third molar region at the level of the apices of the posterior teethusually appears most prominently in the molar region and may be superimposed over the roots of the mandibular teeth.
mylohyoid ridge
located inside the nasal cavity the two things on the side . appear as diffuse radiopaque masses or projections within the nasal cavity
inferior nasal conche
