What does HIPAA stand for?
The Helath Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
A federal legislation which addresses issues rangng from the health insurance coverage to national standard identifiers for healthcare providers

What does HIPPA deal with?
Deal with protecting the privacy and security of Health Data, which HIPPA calls Protected Health Information or PHI
What does PHI stand for?
Protected Health Information
An image of a document made by electronic scanning and transmitted as data by telecommunication links, one fax machine to another, different locations
Fax
A completely digital fax system that allows businesses to send fax doscuments over the internet, no fax hardward required, from mobile device to another (any place in the world)
E-Fax
Steps to Faxing:
- Create the Cover Letter
- Dial the Fax Number
- Determine the “feeding” direction (scanning)
- Fax the Right Material (Letter size)
- Fax with the fax machine
What should a fax cover have?
It should have date and time as well as a shet disclaimer addressed to the fax recipient that staes the faxed information is confidential and unauthorized viewing is not prohibited
How to prevent HIPAA Violations?
Ensure the number is correct
Call ahead of transmission to notify document is coming
“Minimum necessary” guidelines
Must keep records of all faxes

Never leave a fax unattended as it is a violation of HIPAA
