why is septal haematoma urgent?
A
haematoma must be drained
try to restore proximity of perichondrium to septal cartilage
(septal cartilage takes blood from overlying PERICHONDRIUM)
otherwise septal cartilage will undergo avascular necrosis –> saddle deformity of nose

how to treat epitaxis?
A
lean forward and pinch soft part of nose (in front of bony nasal bridge) - compress Little’s area on nasal septum
lean forwards: prevent blood track down throat to stomach, can induce feelings of nausea + can cause vomiting
