Exam #6_Lab: Arm Flashcards
What are the contents of the medial intermuscular septum?
1) Brachial a.
2) Venae comitantes i.e. “accompanying veins,” brachial veins
3) Median n. (anterior)
4) Ulnar n. (posterior)
What vein lies superficial in the medial intermuscular septum?
Bascilic vein
What muscles are the median & ulnar nerves between in the arm?
Short head of the biceps brachii & medial head of the triceps brachii
What are the three muscles of the anterior compartment of the arm?
1) Coracobrachialis
2) Biceps brachii
3) Brachialis
What nerve supplies the anterior compartment of the arm?
Musculocutaneous n.
What nerve pierces the coracobrachialis muscle?
Musculocutaneous n.
What will the cutaneous branch of the musculocutaneous nerve become in the forearm?
Lateral cutaneous n.
How do you remember the short & long heads of the biceps brachii?
Short= medial Long= lateral
Where does the long head of the biceps brachii originate? Short head?
Long head= supraglenoid tubercle
Short head= coracoid process
Where is the brachialis m?
Deep to the biceps brachii
What does the ulnar n. pass around before entering the forearm?
Medial epicodyle of the humerus
What are the three main branches of the brachial artery?
1) Profunda brachii
2) Superior ulnar collateral
3) Inferior ulnar collateral
What is the profunda brachii? What course does the profunda brachii take after it branches?
- First main branch of the brachial artery in the arm
- Follows the radial n. into the posterior compartment
Where do the superior & inferior ulnar collateral arteries typically branch? Where do they go?
- Superior ulnar collateral= middle of the arm
- Inferior ulnar collateral= a few cm above elbow joint
BOTH supply the elbow
What is the muscle in the posterior compartment of the arm?
Triceps brachii
