what is sieber and stanley define as socially sensitive as
studies in which there are potential social consequences or implications either directly for the participants in the research OR the class of individuals represented by the research
what are the 3 implications for the research process/what could they arise from
research question
dealing with participants
the way the findings are used
how could the research question raise ethical implications inc exp eg
the way in which the question is phrased and investigated may influence the way in which the findings are interpreted
eg research into so called “alternative relationships” are guilty of heterosexual bias as homosexual relationships are compared and judged against heterosexual norms THEREFORE the title of research could make someone form prejudice/take the findings the wrong way
how could dealing with participants raise ethical implications inc exp eg
issues with informed consent, confidentiality and psychological harm
eg domestic abuse research: relive experiences = psych harm, risk of partner finding out taking part in study = risk of more harm if find out
ps may provide ic but might not fully understand effect of research
so can be damaging to not study it as we wouldnt understand the psych effects of da but might be harmful to do it
