Enzyme Inhibiton Flashcards
What is an enzyme inhibitor
Substances that directly or indirectly interfere with the functioning of active site of an enzyme to reduce its activity
What is a competitive inhibitor
Substance which binds to active site
What is non competitive inhibitor
Bonds to the enzyme at a position other than the active site
What does shape of competitive inhibitor do
They have a similar molecular shape so theat they can occupy the active site of the enzyme so they then compete with the substrate for the available active site
What happens if substrate concentration is increased
Effect of the inhibitor is decreased the inhibitor isn’t permanently bound so when it leaves another molecules can take its place either a substrate or a inhibitor
What does a non inhibitor do
It attaches to an enzyme at a binding site other than active site upon attaching to the binding site the inhibitor changes the shape of the enzyme and thus its active site so substrate molecules can no longerr occupy the active site and enzyme doesn’t functions
