8.5 Polypeptide Synthesis Flashcards
What does ribosome attach to at beginning
Attached to the starting codon at one end of mRNA molecule
What does the tens molecule do
The complementary anticodon sequence moves to ribosomes and pair up with codon on mRNA which carries a specific amino acid
What do ribosomes move along and join
The mRNA and bring together two tens molecule
What happens to the amino acids that are attached to the tens and ribosomes
They form peptide bonds using an enzyme atp
How are the peptide bonds between the amino acids made
They are made by hydrolysing atp
What happens after peptide bonds are formed
The first tens is released and it’s able to collect another amino acid
When does synthesis of polypeptide stop
When ribosome reaches a stop codon
How does a polypeptide form s secondary structure
By cooking or folding
How is quaternary structure formed
Different polypeptide chains with non protein groups
