A critique has 4 purposes, codenamed ADIA, which stands for:
A - Analyze the work’s content and relevance
D - Describe to determine the author’s purpose and meaning
I - Interpret to define significance
A - Assess and judge the work’s value
4 Steps in Writing a Critique
STEP 1. Introduce the work you are critiquing.
STEP 2. Offer a brief opinion of your own.
STEP 3. Back up your opinion.
STEP 4. State your thesis.
Give the name of the author,
the title of the work,
the date of publication,
and a very brief summary.

Entice the reader by giving out your own perspective
to give the reader an impression
of the work or topic you are critiquing.
STEP 2. Offer a brief opinion of your own.
With a few sentences,
provide a general overview of your analysis.
STEP 3. Back up your opinion.

or focal point of your analysis, including its significance

PARTS OF A CRITIQUE

The introduction itself has 3 parts, which are:
Author’s name
Book/article title and source
Author’s thesis statement
- Body
The critical review must answer the following guide questions:
- What are the credentials/areas of expertise of the author?
- What is the particular appeal or lack of appeal of the work?
- Did the author use appropriate methods to gather the evidence?
- Was the evidence used by the author accurate?
- Did the author build a logical argument?
- Was the author successful in making his/her point?
includes the overall analysis of a subject, supported by paragraphs that support and explain your
evaluation

In the conclusion of a critique, the critic must do the following
- State his/her stance with the author, whether if he or she agrees or disagrees with their point
- Give a general opinion of the book, paper, etc. in question
- Back up their decisions/reviews with their reason
