Chapter 28. Accessory Organs Flashcards
Where is the liver located
right hypochondriac, epigastric and left hypochondriac region
Is the liver an intraperitoneal or retroperitoneal organ
intraperitoneal organ
Describe how the liver is attached to the abdomen
the liver is covered by the peritoneum and is connected by the peritoneal refelctions to the stomach by the lesser omentum and the anterior abdominal wall by the flaciform ligament
the coronary ligament attaches the liver to the inferior surface of the diaphragm
What are the 5 surfaces of the liver
anterior, posterior, right, superior and inferior
What is the visceral surface and the diaphragmatic surface of the liver
visceral surface= interior
diaphragmatic surface=anterior, posterior, right and superior
Where is the porta hepatis located and what passes through the porta hepatis of the liver
it is located at the center of the visceral surface. and it is a passageway for the hepatic artery, vein, bile duct, hepatic nerve plexus and the lymphatic vessel
Where does the vena cava associate with the liver ( which surface(s)) ?
inferior and posterior surface
What are the 2 lobes of the liver and their subdivisions, which surface are the lobes located at
2 lobes: left and right with the left lobe having further subdivisions ( caudate and quadrate lobe)
Which structure/organ associates with the caudate and quadrate lobe of the left lobe of the liver
the caudate lobe is found to the left of the vena cava
the quadrate love is found on the left of the gall bladder
What organs are associated with the impressions on the left and right lobe of the liver
left lobe: stomach
right lobe:right kidney
What ligament is the reminence of the umbilical vein
round ligament of the lover
What is the function of the coronary ligament
It is used to attach the liver the diaphragm
where is the gall bladder located?
tip of the 9th costal cartilage on the right
What are the components of the gall bladder
it consists of the fundus, body and neck
What is the function of the liver
stores and concentrates bile
what are the connections of the cystic duct
gall bladder and the common hepatic duct
What is the vessel carrying bile from the liver to the descending segment of the duodenum called?
right and left hepatic duct
Where is the pancreas located
located behind the stomach on the posterior abdominal wall
Is the pancreas a retroperitoneal or intraperitoneal organ
retroperitoneal
How many pancreatic ducts are there , what are they and what are their functions
- main pancreatic duct: joins the common bile duct to form the hepatopancreatic ampulla
- accessory pancreatic duct: either drains into the main pancreatic duct or joins directly to the descending part of the duodenum
- Note the accessory pancreatic duct allows the pancreatic juice to flow from the ______ of the pancreas to the duodenum
head
What are the 3 salivary gland
parotid, sublingual and submandibular
Which is the largest salivary gland
parotid
Which salivary gland produces the most saliva
submandibular
What are the nerves that innervate the salivary glands
parotid: CN 9
sublingual: CN 7
submandibular: CN 7
Where is the parotid gland located
front and below the ear, covers the masseter muscle
Where is the submandibular gland located, where is the saliva secreated
medial surface of the body of the mandible, saliva is secreted at the floor of the oral cavity
