Chapter 28 Flashcards
What does the cardiac conduction system?
Controls how fast and direction of electrical impulse conduction of heart
-maintains pumping efficiency
**Cardiac conduction system
What cell picks up the electrical nodes of the heartbeat?
Myocardial cells
What are the phases of cardiac potentials?
Phase 0:Rapid upstroke of action potential
Phase1:Early repolarization
Phase 2: Plateau
Phase 3:Final repolarization period
Phase 4: Diastolic repolarization period
**Cardiac potentials
What is phase 0?
Rapid upstroke of action potential: Sodium comes intro myocyte cell
**Cardiac potentials
What is Phase1 ?
Early repolarization: potassium comes out of cell
**Cardiac potentials
What is Phase 2?
Plateau: Calcium comes in
**Cardiac potentials
What is phase 3?
Final repolarization : Potassium comes out
**Cardiac potentials
What is phase 4?
Diastolic repolarization period. Resting potential
What is the electrodiagraphy of heart?
Graphic representation of heart
- the purpose is to figure out how electricity is being picked up through heart
What is pwave ?
atrial depolarization and atrial contraction
What is qrs complex?
Ventricular depolarization and ventricular contraction
What is T wave?
Ventricular repolarization and ventricular rest
What is dysrhythmia?
Abnormal activities in electrical readings of the heart
What is sinus bradycardia?
A slow heart rate( less than 60 beats/ per minute)
-P wave precedes each heart rate. Only a few qrs complex
What is sinus tachycardia?
A rapid heart rate (Higher than 100 beats/per minute)
What is sinus Arrhythmia?
Modification in function of SA node leads to the rhythm of heartbeat to change
-Looks like irregular spaces between beats
What is atrial fibrillation?
Rapid unorganized activation of atrial which can range from 400 to 600
-Looks like quivering squiggly lines between qrs looks irregular
What is atrial flutter?
Atria is contracting faster than ventricles.
240 to 340 hb
-Contractions look like butterfly
-Looks like a jaw, jagged
what is supraventricular tachycardia ?
Cardiac rhythm starts distal tot the bundle of his and contains p wave
could go up to 250hb
Almost like v tack tomb stones because of their big arch
What is ventricular fibrillation?
Ventricle quivers but does not contract, which means there is no cardiac output
Looks like small quivers
What is Asystole?
No rhythm at all. Basically dead
