What are finger stick tests for?

What are preferred sites in adults and children for capillary puncture?
middle or ring finger
- non-dominant hand
- slightly off center
What is the capillary order of draw?
- blood gas collections
- lavender, purple, pink, peal
- green
- additive specimens
- red/gold
What are normal fasting glucose levels for non-diabetic patients?
60-110 mg/dl
What does low Hgb mean?
iron-deficiency anemia
What does high Hgb mean?
polycythemia
- causes blood clots
What are normal hgb values in adult females?
12-16 g/dL
What are normal hgb values for adult males?
13-18 g/dL
What is PKU?
congenital disease caused by a defect in the metabolism of the amino acid phenylalanine
What is normal PT range?
10.4-15.7 seconds
What is normal INR range?
0.8-1.2
What is fecal occult blood test for?
hidden blood
- colorectal cancer
- hemorrhoids
- gastric ulcers
What can cause false positive in fecal occult blood test?
- broccoli
- beets
- drugs (aspirin and ibuprofen)
