Mechs?
A
Reduce serum cholesterol levels by binding to HMGCoA reductase in cholesterol synthesis
Less production by liver and decrease LDL levels in blood
Reduce TGs and increase HDL
All slow/reverse atherosclerosis

Indications?
A
Primary prevention of CVD if over 40 and risk over 10%
Secondary prevention of CVD alongside lifestyle changes
Primary lipidaemia-familial, mixed and primary hypercholesterolaemia

Contraindications?
A
Hepatic and renal impairment
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
CCP450 inhibitors-diltiazem and clopidogrel-less so

Adverse effects?
A
Headache/GI disturbances
Aches, myopathy, rhabdomyolysis
Rise in liver enzyme, drug-induced hepatitis-rare
