Mechanism of action (Quinolones)

A
  • Interferes with bacterial DNA replication and repair.

- Broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotics; provides both gram-positive and gram-negative cover.

  • GI toxicity
  • QT wave prolongation
  • Clostridium difficile infection (antibiotic associated diarrhoea)
  • Tendonitis (this is extremely rare, but is an example of a type B adverse drug reaction)
