Mechanism of action (Quinolones)
A
- Interferes with bacterial DNA replication and repair.
- Broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotics; provides both gram-positive and gram-negative cover.

- Gram negative bacterial infection
- Respiratory tract infection
- Upper urinary tract infection
- Peritoneal infection
- Gonorrhoea
- Prostatitis

Side effects (Quinolones)
A
- GI toxicity
- QT wave prolongation
- Clostridium difficile infection (antibiotic associated diarrhoea)
- Tendonitis (this is extremely rare, but is an example of a type B adverse drug reaction)
