Define
Direct channel
A radio-to-radio channel that allows users to talk without going through the repeater system.
Define
Repeater system
Communications equipment that acts as both transmitter and receiver.
TFD radios have the following direct channels
a. DIR 01 (A15, C15, D15)
b. ST OP1 (Airlift NW A14)
DIR 01 (A15, C15, D15) shall be used exclusively for
fire operations or in conjunction with fire operations training activities.
TFD operations personnel shall switch to DIR 01 (A15) under the following circumstances:
a. In known poor radio reception or transmission areas
b. When radios give an “out of range” signal or bonk
c. When s/he cannot communicate with anyone on a system channel
Personnel experiencing radio problems shall
remain on DIR 01 (A15) until
all personnel are out of the Hot Zone.
PROCEDURE FOR ADDRESSING A RADIO COVERAGE PROBLEM
DURING ROUTINE BUSINESS

1. E-mail the radio user’s report to the City’s Radio Service Center at 800fire@cityoftacoma.org.
- Forward a copy of the radio user’s report to the FCC Supervisor.
