TFD Battalion Chiefs shall be responsible for
- Confirming that personnel assigned to their battalions complete the annual
EVAP re-certification and documentation by June 30 of each year. - Compiling EVAP documentation for personnel in their battalions and forwarding the complete file to the Training Center support staff.
- Ensuring that personnel who have lost driving privileges or who are not in compliance with the requirements of this policy do not drive TFD vehicles or apparatus.
TFD Training Center support staff shall be responsible for
managing the EVAP certification documentation files that are forwarded by the Battalion Chief to the Training Division.

Cones course approved by the Washington State Association of Fire Chiefs or equivalent.

Emergency Vehicle Accident Prevention is a training program and certification process required to operate an emergency vehicle in excess of 26,000 pounds; also provides CDL exemption in Washington State.
TFD personnel shall re-certify every year by successfully completing a
minimum of two hours of documented non-emergency driving that includes an evaluation on the District Course/Road Test using the apparatus as noted in Section 5.5.4
A Company Officer or certified EVAP instructor shall evaluate any TFD
driver’s (including Company Officers) performance on the Cones and District Courses as follows
a. Using the Cones Course and District Course/Road Test forms for initial certification
b. Using the District Course/Road test form for annual re-certification
If a driver’s performance is rated “needs improvement”, the Company
Officer shall
Immediately contact his/her Battalion Chief and the Battalion Chief of Safety within 24 hours
b. Design, with the assistance of the Safety Division, a skills training session for the driver to address the area(s) of concern
c. Give the driver sufficient time to improve his/her skills before re-evaluating him/her for proficiency.
d. Route forms with “needs improvement” rating through the Battalion Chief to the Training Division
