Who is responsible for reviewing all usage of the ADAPT program.
The Medical Services Officer for EMS Operations
If POV transportation is appropriate, but not available, TFD personnel may
arrange for ADAPT transportation if the patient
a. Meets all ROR (release of responsibility) criteria per the Pierce
County Patient Care Protocols.
b. Is ambulatory and able to be transported in a sitting position.
c. Has no need for supplemental oxygen.
Patients who meet the criteria also must:
a. Be willing to accept ADAPT transport.
b. Sign an ROR form.
In all cases, TFD personnel shall
a. Complete and leave with the patient or family member an ADAPT explanation sheet that includes the patient’s name, destination, time of transport and responsible transporting agency.
b. Complete an EMS Worksheet that:
i. Indicates ADAPT as the method of transportation in IRS.
ii. Documents an ROR in accordance with the Pierce County Patient Care Protocols.
iii. Includes completion of the Pierce County Competency
Checklist (on the back of the EMS Worksheet).
Fire Communications personnel shall
a. Contact Rural/Metro dispatch to schedule a time within the following two hours for the ADAPT-eligible patient(s) to be transported to a local hospital emergency department.
b. Relay information about the transport arrangements back to the on-scene TFD personnel.
