Who is responsible for Maintaining this document
The Administrative Battalion Chief for Safety
Battalion Chiefs shall be responsible for
- Ensuring that the PPE for all personnel assigned to them for PPE inspection
is inspected every March and September - Ensuring that all inspection records are completed in a timely manner
The Incident Safety Officer (ISO) shall be responsible for
- Inspecting firefighter PPE at least every March and September at all assigned stations and facilities
- Completing FIR 2530 0021 and/or FIR 2530 0022 as needed
The Safety Lieutenant shall be responsible for
- Inspecting PPE as directed by the Administrative Battalion Chief for Safety
and/or in accordance with the guidelines set forth in this document - Inspecting PPE of 40 hour uniformed personnel assigned to Training and Administration at least every March and September
- Completing FIR 2530 0021 and/or FIR 2530 0022 as needed
- Inspecting spare PPE inventory kept at Headquarters at least every six months

Who is responsible for:
- Evaluating soiled turnouts to determine appropriate facility for laundering
- Working with Safety Division personnel to handle turnouts that cannot be laundered at the stations
- Routine laundering of turnouts, helmet liners, gloves and suspenders
Station 8 and Station 9 personnel
responsible for:
1. Documenting and dispensing spare PPE to TFD personnel whose PPE is
being laundered and/or repaired
2. Properly performing inventory and storing and maintaining their assigned spare PPE
3. Notifying the Safety Office when replacement PPE is needed to maintain their respective PPE inventories at appropriate levels
4. Laundering spare PPE as necessary

The facepiece of an SCBA shall constitute primary face and eye protection
when worn with
a department issued helmet.
Faceshields do not qualify as
primary eye protection.

TFD personnel shall use a permanent marker to stencil his/her first initial
and last name on turnout coats and pants as follows
a. On the lower portion of the turnout coat, centered just above or below the reflective striping, not on the reflective strip
b. On the rear waist area of the turnout pants
TFD personnel shall use permanent marker to print first initial and last name in appropriate areas on what ppe

b. Suspenders
c. Gloves
d. Flash hoods
e. Boots (optional)
f. Hose/utility strap
TFD personnel shall ensure that PPE is Stored in an area where temperatures?

The Administrative Battalion Chief for Safety or his/her designee shall ensure that all issued and used spare PPE is inspected at least
semi-annually
a. The interval between inspections shall not exceed six months.
In addition, TFD personnel shall use the following specific criteria as
appropriate when inspecting PPE:
a. Turnout coat and pants
i. Less than 2” overlap between coat and pants when bending and touching toes
TFD personnel shall have their turnouts laundered at least
twice each year and when soiled.
If repair is indicated, TFD personnel shall
