Q

Described the pathological difference between open and closed angle glaucoma?

A

Open angle
- increased resistance of aqueous humour through the trabecular network
- increase in pressure in the anterior chamber

Closed angle
- completely blocked and aqueous humour can’t get through to the anterior chamber

Q

Management of acute closed and open angle glaucoma

A

Acute closed -
IV acetazolamide
laser zap hole in iris
Pilocarpine - causes pupillary constriction (increases uveal flow)

Open angle
1. latanoprost (reduces IOP)
- causes brown pigmentation of iris
2. B-blockers (reduce aqueous production)
