What is the most common cause of secondary ammenorhea?
Pregnancy
Neonatal respiratory distress syndrome vs transient tachyponea of the newborn?
NRDS - not producing surfactant - usually in premature babies
- becomes move severe over first few days
TTN - delayed resorption of fluid in lungs - with C-section and premature
- often resolves in first day with some oxygen
what are the 6s of innocent murmurs?
Soft
short
systolic
S1 and S2 normal
Symptomless
Standing/sitting (changes with position)
Microcytic anaemia not responding to iron replacement. What should you be thinking?
Sideroblastic anaemia
- sufficent iron but ineffective erythropoesis
What are the different types of HB - which ones need permanent pacing?
1st degree - >0.2mm PR interval
2.1 - increasing, increasing then gone
2.2 - intermittent P waves aren’t there
3rd - no assoc, between P waves and QRS
2.2 and 3rd are often assoc with bradycardia and need permanent pacing
How is thalassemia diagnosed?
Electrophoresis - measures the different types of Hb
How is major B-thalassemia managed?
Lifelong blood transfusions to help maintain Hb levels
