Features and how to manage them

A
  1. Long acting bentos - diazepam (start at max dose and reduce over 7-10days)
  • Delirium tremens (48-72hrs post withdrawal)
  • agitation
  • confusion
  • visual and auditory hallucinations
  • Seizures

For both seizures and delirium -> lorazepam

Wernicke’s encephalopaty
Triad
- Opthamalegia
- Ataxia
- Confusion

Thiamine infusion (give oral thiamine to reduce the risk)

Men get screened with abdominal USS at 65 yo

<3cm - no further screening
3-4.4- every 12 months
4.5-5.4 - every 3 months
>5.5cm - urgent 2 week referral to vascula
