Features and how to manage them
- Long acting bentos - diazepam (start at max dose and reduce over 7-10days)
- Delirium tremens (48-72hrs post withdrawal)
- agitation
- confusion
- visual and auditory hallucinations
- Seizures
For both seizures and delirium -> lorazepam
Wernicke’s encephalopaty
Triad
- Opthamalegia
- Ataxia
- Confusion
Thiamine infusion (give oral thiamine to reduce the risk)
Explain the screening pathways for AAA
Men get screened with abdominal USS at 65 yo
<3cm - no further screening
3-4.4- every 12 months
4.5-5.4 - every 3 months
>5.5cm - urgent 2 week referral to vascula
If a patient is suffering from severe urticaria that is not improving with antihistamines what should be added?
Short course oral steroid
How is legionella best diagnosed
Urinary sample
What makes AAA likely to rupture and requiring urgent referral for elective repair?
- > 5.5cm
- growing >1cm/year
- symptomatic
