Q
How do you interpert syphillis test results?
A
Important is treponema result
Treponema = positive during infection and after
Non-treponema test = negative when successfully treated HOWEVER can sometimes remain negative in re-infection
The RPR (rapid plasma reagin) test monitors disease activity and reinfection
IMPORTANT
- 1 in 2 is less than 1 in 32 (it is a measure of how many times a sample needs to be diluted before it no longer contains syphillis)
A rise of 4-fold or more suggests reinfection with syphillis
