102 - Peritoneum Flashcards
Name for mesentery of the stomach
Omentum
Are the aorta and IVC intra- or retroperitoneal?
Retroperitoneal, sitting against the posterior abdominal wall
Primary function of mesentery
Connect neurovascular bundles to organs.
Secondary function of mesentery
Give mobility to an intraperitoneal structure
Nerve supply of the peritoneum
Shares nerve supply of what it overlies. Parietal has somatic innervation. Visceral has visceral innervation.
Organs of the most posterior layer of the abdominal cavity 1 2 3
1) Kidneys 2) Adrenals 3) Ureters
Second-most posterior layer of organs in the abdominal cavity 1 2 3 4
1) Duodenum 2) Pancreas 3) Bile duct 4) Ascending and descending colon
Structure overlying two two most posterior layers of organs in the abdominal cavity
Peritoneum
Systems that all abdominal paired viscera belong to
Urogenital and endocrine systems
Name for organs that were intraperitoneal initially, but became retroperitoneal during development
Secondarily retroperitoneal
Three major mesenteries supporting the intraperitoneal viscera
1) Mesogastrium 2) The mesentery 3) Transverse mesocolon
*Arrangement of mesentery in abdomen
Components of abdominal mesentery
Greater sack and lesser sack.
Lesser sack
Part of the mesentery that lies behind stomach. Continous with the greater sack at the epiploic foramen (of Windslow)
Path along which the mesentery travels
Attaches small intestine to the abdominal wall. Starts at the DJ flexure, over 3rd part of duodenum, across aorta, IVC, right psoas, ends at ileocaecal junction
