What is vascular dementia?

A

The second most common form of dementia characterized by cognitive impairment secondary to CV disease

How does VD present?

A
  • Several months/years of sudden/stepwise deterioration of cognitive function
  • Difficulty with attention/concentration
  • Memory disturbance
  • Speech disturbance
  • Gait disturbance

  • Clinical diagnosis
  • Exclude other causes
  • MRI may show infarcts
