- History of stroke/TIA
- Older age
- AF
- DM
- Smoking
- CVD

What is vascular dementia?
A
The second most common form of dementia characterized by cognitive impairment secondary to CV disease

How does VD present?
A
- Several months/years of sudden/stepwise deterioration of cognitive function
- Difficulty with attention/concentration
- Memory disturbance
- Speech disturbance
- Gait disturbance

How is VD diagnosed?
A
- Clinical diagnosis
- Exclude other causes
- MRI may show infarcts

A
NINDS-AIREN criteria

How is VD managed?
A
- Manage symptoms
- Detect and manage CV risk factors
- Can do non-pharmacological methods such as animal therapy, cognitive stimulation programmes
