What is normal pressure hydrocephalus?
A
A reversible cause of dementia seen in elderly patients

What is the aetiology of NPH?
A
It is thought to be secondary to reduce CSF absorption in the arachnoid villi -> can be secondary to head injury, SAH or meningitis

How does NPH present?
A
- Urinary incontinence
- Dementia and slowed neuro function
- Gait abnormality

How is NPH investigated?
A
- CT shows hydrocephalus with ventriculomegaly in the absence of/out of proportion to sulcal enlargement

How is NPH managed?
A
- Ventriculoperitoneal shunting
