What is Bell’s Palsy?
A
Acute, unilateral, idiopathic facial nerve paralysis

What are risk factors for Bell’s palsy?
A
- 20-40 years old
- Pregnant women

How does Bell’s present?
A
- LMN palsy (forehead affected)
- Pain behind ears
- Altered taste
- Dry eyes
- Noise sensitivity

How is Bell’s managed?
A
- Prednisolone within 72 hours of onset of symptoms
- Eye care: artificial tears and eye lubricants
- Eye taping at night if unable to close
- Urgent referral to ENT if no improvement after 3 weeks
