What are risk factors for Bell’s palsy?

A
  • 20-40 years old
  • Pregnant women

How does Bell’s present?

A
  • LMN palsy (forehead affected)
  • Pain behind ears
  • Altered taste
  • Dry eyes
  • Noise sensitivity

How is Bell’s managed?

A
  • Prednisolone within 72 hours of onset of symptoms
  • Eye care: artificial tears and eye lubricants
  • Eye taping at night if unable to close
  • Urgent referral to ENT if no improvement after 3 weeks
