Nerve Anatomy Flashcards
How would a median nerve supply?
- Upper arm
- Distal forearm
- Motor supply to the hand excluding intrinsic muscles
- Sensory: Thumb and lateral 2.5 fingers
How would a median nerve injury present?
Wrist:
Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Paralysis/wasting of the thenar muscles
- Sensory loss to palmar aspect of lateral fingers
Elbow
- Weak wrist flexion
- Ulnar deviation of wrist
- Unable to pronate forearm
How would an ulnar nerve supply?
Motor: intrinsic hand muscles
- Sensory: Medial 1.5 fingers
How does ulnar nerve damage present?
- Claw hand
- Wasting/paralysis of the intrinsic hand muscles
- Wasting/paralysis of the hypothenar muscles
- Sensory loss to the medial 1 1/2 fingers
How would radial nerve supply?
Motor: Triceps, forearm muscles
Sensory: Small area at proximal phalanges on the dorsal aspect of the hands
How would radial nerve damage present?
Shoulder: impaired shoulder abduction
Triceps: Loss of elbow extension
Forearm: Weakening of supination and elbow flexion
- Wrist drop
