What is an extradural haemorrhage?
A
Bleeding between the skull and the dura mater due to rupture of the middle meningeal artery

How does EH present?
A
- Following traumatic head injury
- Young person
- Ongoing headache
- Improved consciousness followed by rapid decline over hours at the haematoma expands to compress intracranial contents

How is EH investigated?
A
- CT: Biconvex/Lentiform hyperdense collection around the surface of the brain (lemon shaped)
- Limited by the suture lines

How is EH managed?
A
- Craniotomy and evacuation of haematoma
