What is chronic fatigue syndrome?
A
Atleast 3 months of disabling fatigue affecting mental and physical function more than 50% of the time in the absence of other disease

How does chronic fatigue syndrome present?
A
- More common in females
- Fatigue worsened by activity
- Sleep disturbance
- Muscle/joint pain
- Headaches
- Painful lymph nodes
- Sore throat
- Cognitive dysfunction e.g problems word-finding, slowed responsiveness

What is NICE diagnostic criteria for CFS?
A
- Persistent symptoms for at least 6 weeks
- Ability to engage in occupational/educational/social activities is impaired
- Symptoms unexplained by anything else

How should CFS be investigated?
A
- Urinalysis
- FBC, U+E, LFT, TFT, ESR, CRP, HbA1c, CK

How is CFS managed?
A
- Refer to specialist service
- Energy management strategies
- Supportive CBT
