Urinary System (part 2) Flashcards
The order of urinary organs from top to bottom
Kidney
Ureters
Urinary Bladder
Urethra
Kidney
Forms and collects urine : urine into the renal pelvis then it goes thru the hilum then passes into the ureters
Ureters
Tubers that take urine form the kidneys tot he urinary bladder
Urinary bladder
Hollow, muscular organ, made of elastic fibers, transitional epithelial tissue, and smooth muscle that stores and releases urine
Urethra
Narrow tube that carries urine to the outside of the body
Internal sphincters Function
Involuntary control opens/relaxes when bladder stretches when filled with urine (like water balloon) and signals to the CNS the need for urination
External sphincters Function
Voluntary control allow urine to leave
Glomerulus
Tuft of coiled arterioles
Glomerular capsule (Bowman’s capsule)
Saclike structure that surrounds glomerulus; it collects filtrate from the glomerulus
Threshold
Limit to quantity of a specific substance that can be reabsorbed
Spilling Over
Passing the threshold level and releasing excess into urine
Antiduiretic Hormone (ADH)
Controls the amount of water reabsorbed by distal convoluted tubule = amount of water released to urine
