Chapter 5 (part 2) Connective Tissues Flashcards
Adipose (Loose) Connective Tissue Structure
Honeycomb structure with rounded, cells called apidocytes that have large fat storing vacuoles that push the nucleus toward the outside of the cell
Adipose (Loose) Connective Tissue Location
Found throughout the body:
- under skin
- abdominal membrane called the omentum
- behind the eyeballs
- between muscles
- around the kidneys in the joints
- on the surface of the heart
Adipose (Loose) Connective Tissue Function
- Stores fat (for energy)
- Cushions
- Supports
- Protects
- And insulates the body
Areolar (Loose) Connective Tissue Structure
Fibroblasts, collagen, elastin, and rectangular fibers suspended in a semi-fluid matrix
-Form delicate woven membranes throughout the body
Areolar (Loose) Connective Tissue Location
- Beneath the skin
- Between muscles
- Beneath most epithelial tissues
Areolar (Loose) Connective Tissue Function
Supports and binds together organs and holds tissue fluids
Bone Structure
Osteocytes (bone cells) with collagen, elastin, and rectangular fibers supported in a solid, calcified matrix
