Metoprolol – more selective beta 1
 Propanolol – non-selective – blocks beta 1 and beta 2
(lungs)
 Action
 Blocks the adrenergic affect, which lowers blood
pressure and heart rate
 Uses
 Hypertension
 Also used as an anti-dysrhythmic and anti-angina
 Can be used as dual therapy along with a diuretic for
African Americans
Beta adrenergic blockers
end in ‘olol’

Fatigue, dizziness, dysgeusia, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, insomnia, nightmares, drowsiness, headache, blurred vision, rash, pruritus, peripheral edema, tinnitus, erectile dysfunction, depression
