types of adaptations Flashcards
1
Q
structural adaptations
A
changes to an organisms anatomy or physical characteristics.
example: camouflage, thorns to protect from predators, mimicry (monarch butterflies are poisonous so butterfly’s copy their wing pattern)
2
Q
physiological adaptations
A
changes to metabolic processes occurring within the body (chemical changes, alarm signals, etc.)
production of enzymes that control body functions such as temp, repiration, etc can help the organism adapt and survive.
ex: orchids will produce sent to signal male.
secretion of venom, etc.
3
Q
behavioural adaptations
A
- are inherited behavioural patterns that allow an organism to survive an environment/ avoid danger, etc.
ex. geese born to understand when they need to migrate.
squirrel- storage of nuts
