Digestion Flashcards
Intercellular vs extra cellular digestion
Food vacuoles (phagocytosis/ pinocytocis) fuse w/ lysome
Compartment that is continuous w/ external environment
Digestion starts in
Mouth- enzymes in mouth like amylase breakdown starch and glycogen and bolus where tongue pushes it to pharynx
Small intestine
Most enzymatic hydrolisis of macromolecules
Chyme mixes with duodenum and gastric juices from pancreas (w/ help of villi and microvilli)
Pancreas
Produces alkanine biorichcarbonate that neutralize chyme
Protease, lipases, nuclease, amylease
gallbladder/liver
bile salts emulsify lipids
apical vs basal surface
facing inside intestine
facing blood
hepatic portal vein
where nutrients go to
2 ways fats go through the body
- liver- converts nutrients of what body needs, and excrete not needed
- chylomicrons- surrounded by carbohydrates and proteins goes to lymph and heart
