Inflammation of the bursa on the lateral aspect of the hip

What are the main causes of Trochanteric Bursitis?
A
- Overuse
- Structural-scoliosis
- Osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis

What are the main presentations of Trochanteric Bursitis?
A
Lateral hip pain
Pain that radiates down the thigh

What exacerbates the pain in Trochanteric bursitis?
A
Activity
Lying on that side
Hip rotation, abduction and adduction

How is Trochanteric bursitis diagnosed?
A
Positive Trendelenburg test
Tenderness over the greater trochanter of the femur

What is the medical management of trochanteric bursitis?
A
- NSAID’s
* Corticosteroid injection

A
Bursectomy
