What is cubital tunnel syndrome?
Compression of the ulnar nerve as it passes through the cubital tunnel
Where is the cubital tunnel?
In the elbow
What nerve is affected in cubital tunnel syndrome?
Ulnar nevrve
What does compression of the ulnar nerve result in?
Tingling and numbness of the 4th and 5th finger
How does the tingling and numbness first present?
Initially it is intermittent, however it then becomes constant
What makes the pain of cubital tunnel syndrome worse?
Pain worse on leaning on the affected elbow
What can also occur over time in someone presenting with cubital tunnel syndrome?
Develop weakness and muscle wasting
What is there usually a history of in someone preseting with cubital tunnel syndrome?
Oosteoarthritis or prior trauma to the area.
How is cubital tunnel syndrome diagnosed?
Usually clinically
What investigation can be done for cubital tunnel syndrome?
Nerve conduction studies may be used
What is the management of cubital tunnel syndrome?
Avoid aggravating activity
Physiotherapy
Steroid injections
Surgery in resistant cases
