What would you see on an x-ray of someone with Rickets?
Widened epiphyseal plate
What would the level of 25-hydroxyvitaminD be to diagnose Rickets?
Less than 25ng/mol
What are risk factors for Rickets?
Malabsorption
Chronic kidney disease
Lack of sun exposure
Poor nutrition
What can malabsorption be due to?
Coeliac
IBD
What is the management of Rickets?
Oral vitamin D
What does Falconi syndrome include?
- Type 2 renal tubular acidosis
- Rickets/osteomalacia
- Polyuria
What is the main cause of Rickets?
Prolonged lack of sufficient vitamin D
What can a prolonged lack of vitamin D result in?
An inability to absorb calcium and phosphorous from food.
