Topic 9 Flashcards
1
Q
allelic polymorphism
A
a gene with more than one allele occupies that genes locus within a population, must occut at least in 1% in the popultion
- incr combos in a population ex albino locus, mora than one phenotype in a popualtion
2
Q
epistasis
A
one gene depends on another to be expressed
- BBcc = cc, not expressed
- BBcC = cC, expressed
(Black/brown, cc albino = no pigment expressed if cc
3
Q
pleidotrophy
A
one gene responsible for many unrelated phenotype effects, can be dysfunctional or lethal in many breeds
- aka side effect of genes
- the product is used in many cells/rections
4
Q
superdominance
A
Aa more fit than AA or aa
heterozygote > homozygote
- maintain polymorphism
- explain genetic variability
5
Q
X - linked inheritance
A
F = XX, M = XY (birdF = ZW, birdM =ZZ)
- recessive x - linked alleles expressed in heterogametic sex, males, female birds
- ex hemophilia, mother is carrier, 50% of offspring affected
