Q
Arguments
A
- Current endangered breeds may possess some until not appreciated genetic characters, which can be desired and of advantage in future
- Endangered domestic breeds as reserve population when the useable genetic variation in presently dominating populations declines
- Some domestic animals are historically closely linked to different farming cultures, environments, religions, traditions, regions
- Adaption ability, resistance to diseases
- Results of human creation (worth preserving like a building or art)
- In crossing programs with high yielding breeds may be economical
- Under unfavourable conditions can be bred with minimum input
- For demonstration and showing of historical development
And of course: preserving biodiversity of a species!
