increase the frequency of pairing similar genes; uncover genes that produce abnormalities or death; Lower performance, vigour, disease resistancem reproductive efficiency; increases frequency of abnormalities; e.g. spider lamb disease is from inbreeding; reduction in genetivc diversity inbreeding depression
