P2Y platelet aggregation inhibitor; Antiplatelet
How is Brilinta (ticagrelor) supplied?
90 mg tablet
Actions (Pharmacodynamics) - Brilinta (ticagrelor)
Reduces platelet aggregation – reversibly inhibits platelet P2Y12 ADP receptor to prevent signal
transduction and platelet activation
Indications - Brilinta (ticagrelor)
Reduction of thrombolytic cardiovascular events in conjunction with aspirin in patients with acute
coronary syndrome.
Dosage - Brilinta (ticagrelor)
Adult – PO – 180 mg once (given with aspirin 325 mg) *AHS MCP Note: Dosage is as directed by VHR physician / protocol
Contraindications - Brilinta (ticagrelor)
❑ Hypersensitivity
❑ History of intracranial hemorrhage
❑ active pathologic bleeding
❑ severe hepatic impairment
Precautions - Brilinta (ticagrelor)
❑ Moderate hepatic impairment
❑ Renal impairment
❑ Risk factors for bleeding
Why might Brilinta (ticagrelor) be used in place of ASA?
Initial treatment in patients with allergy to aspirin or major GI intolerance to ASA
Should Brilinta (ticagrelor) be used in Pts scheduled for surgery?
Use should be discontinued 5 days prior to any surgery. Do not initiate in patients planning coronary artery bypass graft surgery.
