Q

Can morphine affect preload?

A

Yes. It is a vasodilator and so can decrease preload. If hypotension develops, administer fluids as a first line therapy.

Q

Why can morphine be beneficial in treatment of ACS?

A

It produces CNS analgesia, which reduces the adverse effects of neurohumoral activation, catecholamine release, and heightened myocardial oxygen demand.
