Actions (Pharmacodynamics) - Thiamine

A

Combines with ATP to form thiamine pyrophosphate, a coenzyme necessary for carbohydrate metabolism. Thiamine is required by our bodies to properly use carbohydrates.

Indications - Thiamine

A

❑ Prior to D50W in hypoglycemic patients suspected of thiamine deficiency (malnutrition, alcoholism). May administer following if not given prior.
❑ Prevention of Wernicke’s encephalopathy.
❑ Delirium tremors
❑ Ethanol Poisoning
