Describe the MOA (Pharmacodynamics) of Solu-Medrol.
- Anti-inflammatory: Stimulates the synthesis of enzymes needed to decrease the inflammatory response.
- Also increases the amount of beta 2 receptors in the lung
What are the indications for use of Solu-Medrol?
- Bronchospasm
- Anaphylactic shock
- Status asthmaticus
What is the dose for Solu-Medrol?
Adult/Pediatric: 1-2 mg/kg IV to a max of 125mg q 6 hrs, given over 3 – 15 minutes
List the contraindications to Solu-Medrol use
- Allergy to any formulation components
- Cushing’s syndrome
- Systemic fungal infections
What is a precaution to consider when using Solu-Medrol?
Rapid IV injection of large doses have resulted in convulsions, anaphylaxis, dysrhythmias, and death

According to the manufactures directions using the supplied diluents or water for injection
What is the recommended administration time frame for Solu-Medrol?
For doses greater than 0.5 g IV, give over at least 10 minutes to prevent arrhythmias and circulatory collapse. The recommended infusion rate is over at least 30 minutes.
