ไม่ใช่ (not ไม่เป็น) is used to negate or contradict a statement, similar to the English “not” or “is/are not.” It indicates that something is not the case or someone is not something.

Structure:
Subject + ไม่ใช่ + Object

For example:
ที่นี่ไม่ใช่ธนาคาร
Têe-nêe mâi-châi tá-naa-kaan.
Here’s not a bank.

เขาไม่ใช่คนไทย
Kăo mâi-châi kon tai.
He is not Thai.

ผมไปภูเก็ตไม่ใช่เชียงใหม่
Pŏm bpai Phuket, mâi-châi Chaing Mai.

เมื่อ is used for “when,” the same as ตอน but more formal and more general. In the last example, it’s used for “as soon as.”

Structure:
เมื่อ + Subject + Verb

For example:
ฉันแต่งงานเมื่ออายุ 20 ปี
Chăn dtàeng-ngaan mêua aa-yú yêe-sìp bpee.
I got married when I was 20 years old.

ฉันจะขึ้นแท็กซี่เมื่อถึงกรุงเทพ
Chăn jà kêun táek-sêe **mêua **tĕung grung têp.
I will take a taxi when I arrive in Bangkok.

เมื่อรถจอด เขาก็รีบขึ้นทันที
Mêua rót jòt, kăo gôr rêep kêun tan-tee.
As soon as the car stopped, he hurriedly got in.

อย่า is used to form negative commands or requests, essentially meaning “don’t” in English. It is used to advise or instruct someone not to do something.

Structure:
อย่า + Verb + [Object/Adverbial Phrase]

For example:
อย่าไปคนเดียว มันอันตราย
Yàa bpai kon-diao. Man an-dtà-raai.
Don’t go alone, it’s dangerous.

อย่านอนดึก
Yàa non dèuk.
Don’t go to bed late.

อย่ากินมากเกินไป
Yàa gin mâak gern bpai.
