What are the 4 mandatory sections of a SOPEP
- Pre amble
- Procedure for reporting incidents - contain list of national state contacts, updated yearly by imo and amended every 3 months
- Action to take to contain a spill
- Co-ordination procedures with authorities( local and national)
Who to report to in event of a spill
If in international waters then report to flag state
If in port state waters then to local port state and mca
What are the non mandatory sections of the SOPEP
Tanks Piping ARRANGMENTS SOPEP equipment List of port contacts Oil pollution prevention team Drill requirements Reviewing and record keeping
Who must have a SOPEP
Vessels over 400 get must have a SOPEP
And vessel under must have a oil pollution control plan
What to do I the event of a spill
Shut down pumping or blank off, stop flow.

Master
Contain the spill as much as possible, booms, floating mooring line
Report as soon as possible to port or local authorities
Begin clean up process and store oiled absorbent and oil in drums onboard
Only commence operations again once completely cleaned up, investigation in to cause completed, control measures implemented, and approval from local authorities has been granted
