Basic Requirements for Helicopter operations
A
- Helideck structure, adequate to protect ship from fire hazards
- Fire fighting appliances (i.e. AFFF inductors specific for helideck)
- Refuelling and hanger facilities measure to protect from fire
- Operation manuals and training

Crew requirements for Helicopter operations
A
- HLO: Specifically trained by training provider(cannot be master)
- Any crew participating in Heliops must be trained by Training provider HLA (Helo landing assistance)
- Training and Regular drills for emergency scenarios
- Contingencies in SMS or Contingency plans
- At least one crew trained in managing and handling of aviation fuel.

Master responsibility with regard to Heliops
A
- Ultimate responsibility for Safety onboard
- Appointment of the HLO (not himself)
- Ensure that HLO is competent and trained
- Designate a person to be responsible for - ADmin, docs, maintenance, and records of Heliops and equipment
- Adequate assitance is available to assist HLO and that they are correctly trained.
- Must grant permission prior to any operations undertaken (landing, taking off, fuelling, winching, Starting engines)

Helideck General precautions
A
- Approaching helicopter
Approach from side and with permission - Anti- Collision lights
Strobe light, do not approach while on - Rotor down draught
FOD checks - Flotation equipment
Emegrncy floats on skews, be carful not to damage or accidentally release - Air intakes/exhausts
Do not touch or cover
-Pitot tubes
Very sensitive, do not damage
-Static electricity
Earth before feeling
-Aerials
Coms, doing damage
- Danger areas
Tail rotor, directly ahead.

Preparing for a heli evacuation
A
Requesting Helicopter:
- Contact RCC with Vessel details
- Vessel position speed and course
- Weather
- As much medical info
- Landing or winching
Prep of patient
- Patient as close to pick up area as patients condition permits.
- Update info on meds given
- PPE
- All records and important document with patient.
Vessel Prep:
- Course and speed to rendezvoused position
- Comunication frequencies
- FOD
- Antenna down and Radars off
- Penant/windsock
- Fire pumps ready
- Fire hoses
- Foam applicators setup and ready
- Dry powder extinguisher at ready
- Rescue party detailed
- RB ready for launch
- PPE
- Coms between bridge, deck and Helo.
- Lights (NAV and Deck Ilumination
- Wind 30Deg PORT
- Steering speed
- If man lowered follow instructions
- If basket lowered, remove put patient inside, move to pick up, Signal Helo ready, connect basket.
