When must a maritime declaration of health be submitted?
Any of the following which have occurred with in the last 28 days.
- Death of any person other than that as the result of an accident
- Illness with temperature above 38C accompanied by a rash, glandular swelling or jaundice or where temp persists for longer than 48 hours
- Illness with diarrhoea severe enough to interfere with work
- Presence of a person onboard suffering from an infectious disease
- Any other circumstance which may cause the spread of infections disease, cockroach infestation
- Presence of animals or birds where there is mortality of such animals
When should the master send the Maritime health declaration to the arrival port?
No more than 24hrs before arrival and no less than 4 hours before arrival.

What is th ships sanitation control exemption certificate and when is it issued.
The certificate is issued after an inspection by the medical officer authorised by the port health authority. It can only be issued if the vessel has been found to have no indication of contamination or infection. The inspection should be conducted when the vessel and holds are empty except for the ballast tanks. It is valid for 6 months
